Jesus might have looked like that man

you just called “Palestinian,” as if it’s a slur.

That Son of God you pretend to worship

actually was, in fact, Palestinian.

Jewish too, and hung out with thieves

and prostitutes because those who are well

have no need for physicians.

He rescued an adulteress from mandatory execution

because none among the fundamentalists

was without sin enough to cast the first stone.

He commanded us to love even the “illegals”;

even those infected with so much hate,

love is just a four-letter word; even those

whose loves do not resemble yours.

He who lives by the sword dies by the sword,

and about abortion he spoke not a word.
